Emerald Guide (Bedrock)

The Rarity of Emeralds in Bedrock

Emerald ore is notoriously difficult to find in Bedrock Edition if you don't know the rules. Just like Java, emeralds are biome-locked. If you aren't under a mountain biome, you can forget about finding this green gem in the earth.

While villagers offer the easiest path to riches, mining emeralds remains a prestige activity for many Bedrock survivalists.

Where to Find Emeralds (Bedrock 1.21)

Search high, not low. Emeralds in Bedrock follow a triangular distribution that peaks at Y=232. This means you'll find them on the slopes of Jagged Peaks and Stony Peaks, often exposed to the air. Below sea level, they become vanishingly rare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do emeralds spawn in caves?

Only if that cave is located beneath a mountain biome. They will never spawn in a desert, forest, or ocean cave.
