The Mesa Gold Multiplier

The Badlands (Mesa) is the only biome in Minecraft that fundamentally overrides the standard ore rules. In this biome, gold receives a 'boosted' generation status.

In a normal chunk, the game tries to place gold maybe 2-4 times. In a Badlands chunk, it tries over 20 times. This results in gold veins appearing nearly as often as iron. If you find a Mesa, set up a base immediately — your gold worries are over.
