Lapis is the bottleneck for every player trying to get Protection IV or Sharpness V. While you can occasionally find it in chests, mining is the only way to get the stacks needed for a full set of god-armor.

The Sweet Spot: Y=0

Lapis has one of the tightest distribution curves in the game. It peaks at Y=0. This is the exact transition point where stone turns into deepslate. If you mine too high (sea level) or too low (diamond level), lapis becomes much harder to find.
