How to Find Diamonds — Bedrock 1.21

Updated: April 2026 · Bedrock · EXPERIMENTAL: Bedrock results may vary.

Diamond ore on Bedrock 1.21 follows the same Y=-64..16 triangle profile as Java, peaking near Y=-59 with deepslate hosts below Y=0. Use branches spaced every two blocks, carry water for lava below Y=-54, upgrade to Fortune III (~2.2 diamonds per ore, max 4), and optionally plan X/Z with our Ore Finder. EXPERIMENTAL: Bedrock results may vary.

1. Depth, deepslate, and daily mining tempo

Start by committing to Y=-59 for peak hit rates. If handheld play makes lava scary, try Y=-57 while clearing neighboring layers. Deepslate replaces stone below Y=0, so expect slower breaks—Efficiency V plus mending is standard progression. The technical mirror to Java lives in deepslate mining.

Vein footprints still include size 4 / 8 / 12 configs with the documented air-discard rates (0.5 / 0.5 / 0.7, buried 1.0)—see density for charts.

2. Branch corridors and controller ergonomics

Mark a spine tunnel, then peel branches every two blocks. Console players should torch aggressively—Bedrock’s gamma tricks differ from Java shader packs. Sprint toggles cost hunger; steady walking preserves food when you are hours deep.

For bulk clears, replicate strip mining once you own beacon fuel.

3. Fortune III, Silk Touch, and loot prep

Farm villagers for Fortune III books or grind level-30 enchants. Average yield is about 2.2 diamonds per block with a cap of four—identical expectation to Java. Silk Touch hauls ore home for safe cracking inside a mending bubble.

Enchant tables and trims still burn diamonds; keep a reserve before you convert everything to netherite.

4. Mega caves vs manufactured halls

Bedrock cheese caves expose huge walls—great for casual loot, poor for predictable throughput because buried veins may discard in open air. Hybrid routes: cave-hop between manufactured grids anchored on finder highlights.

Night Vision plus slow falling keeps vertical drops safer on phones.

Check ceilings—wandering mobs love dark overhangs.

5. Bonus diamonds from loot routes

Trial chambers, bastions, and End Cities still sprinkle gems while you hunt other objectives. Use Seed Map to stitch structure runs with your mining mains—just do not confuse chest RNG with vein RNG.

Java guide lists comparable loot tables if you play both editions.

6. EXPERIMENTAL: validating parity on your device

Marketplace worlds, behavior packs, and mobile thermal throttling can all change how cave exposure feels even when vanilla math matches. Label backups, test creative copies, and treat any non-vanilla datapack as voiding this advice.

Official numbers on this hub match our research brief—challenge us with reproducible seeds if something drifts.
